One of the three scenarios is true, the other two are just so unbelievable to barely merit publishing but hey, here goes……..Make your own mind up!
a)Matt and his gang of Skydivers found the key to the website on DK’s table and thought it looked suspiciously like the key to empty the Launderette machine cash boxes in and around the Tollcross area of Glasgow, and so took it back with them to Cumbernauld from Dubai. As the key was required as material evidence in the subsequent trial of the Laundro Matt’s gang, the website was unable to function but the return of the key has seen Dubai Hoops CSC info machine back to normal although sometimes the spin dryer overheats!
b)One of the less cerebral members of the Duba Hoops CSC was asked to take over some of the admin work on the website and when it came to paying the bills insisted on offering Dirhams. The website accounts dept., told our ex Cumbernauld CSC type admin guy that the account must be settled in Sterling. Although he thought this arrangement a wee bit unusual, he nonetheless asked which bank in Sterling and was advised……..any that’s open! So reassured he responded “that’s fine as I’m going back to see Mummy next week and it’s only fifteen minutes on the train from Cumbernauld, I will pay it then” ………………..eh!!!!!!!!!!!
c)Website accounts dept., would not accept a cheque from the current editor of www.dubaihoops.com owing to some confusion over a past misdemeanour involving cheques, banks, cards, fraud, foreign exchange, shotguns, monopoly money and a Southside smuggling ring. This was cleared up when references were produced by stalwart business people from as far apart as Maryhill and Tollcross, testifying to the good character of all Dubai Hoops CSC committee members...............

A wee look back……..Tuesday night /Wednesday morning: Martin, Franny and Thomas (our regular visitor from the Skydivers CSC), meet our "tired" guests at Sheikh Rashid arrivals and whisk them off to Dubliners for a wee 'lock-in' and a blether and sing song into the early hours.
Wednesday: All anticipation re the nights' game Charlie and the Bhoys meet up with the usual suspects in Fibber Magees for a trial run prior to the real thing in Dub's that night. Just to calm the nerves and that……….
Wednesday night: and Dub's is jumping, the atmosphere is electric and even our visitors are amazed "Whit! The Middle East and there's about 150 Tims belting out melodies old and new…………this is no real!!!!!!!!!" …………………..and then wee Molly scores from about 87 yards out and well, then the fun really started………..not much more to say about that night, well by all accounts there probably is a lot more to be said but my recall faculty was seriously impaired as a result of the late kick off and the fact that I was seriously "tired".
So, to Thursday: and the function. Depends what your perception and expectations are on this one; entertain and get involved or be entertained in the polite applause prawn sandwich munching style or the raucous involved enjoyment of some. There were maybe four tables up for it so to speak and were giving it big. The more conservative seemed to also enjoy with varying degrees of as said previously being entertained. Nonetheless, brilliant stuff, played with some style and Mick doing his best to gee up the punters so to speak. Layout and format probably needs reviewing for future gigs of this type.
As reinforced by the Friday: Mayhem in Dub's where Macca went down well with his Q + A session and where Charlie and the Bhoys were sensational, albeit to a fairly small but enthusiastic crowd. Thanks guys ……….superb stuff. Later that night - a wee session round the flat, some more tunes, my pick this time, to round off the visit and say Cheerio to Jimmy, Mick et al…………..had to stop saying Charlieand responding to the constant "Whit wan's Charlie?"………. Him there, Jimmy!……….." Whit, ye mean Charlie's name is Jimmy?"……… confused the pheck out of some of the Dubai Hoops' guys who have trouble remembering their own names and how they got here in the first place. Anyway, a few lessons learned; Charlie and the Bhoys were first class, and next time, and there will be another visit, preparation and venue all important……... The Barca Mole.
Dunfermliedown but no against us
Love the new found optimism but of late so many Tims are getting carried away (with the recent improvement under St. Rachan). Some of the recent stuff, i.e. pre Saturday, borders on triumphalism IMHO. Anyway, to Saturday. Leave off work 5:15, intention is to make my way home to change and then onto Dubliner’s for the 7:00 kick off. Stuck in traffic on the Sheikh Zayed Rd, (no time to change to don the emerald garb, so tell cab driver straight to Dub’s. OK, so it’s just Celtic Telly but hey, adds to the atmosphere), make it with minutes to spare and you know when the portends are not right, well that was the feeling yesterday, 1hr 45mins to get 45Km, predictions of 7-0 – get real, team selection, hardly any colours in the pub and less than 20 turned up to watch, pitiful, when considering we had +150 for each of the games v TFOD…………expat 'supporters at their worst!……………Rambling now…….back to the main point about how good we really are……some might not like this cold water being poured on the flames but really it is not just about the Old Guard! Again, in IMHO, the majority of the new signings just do not cut mustard and are not good enough to be wearing the hoops. Sure, they are 'tryers' and I really do not like to slaughter/single out individuals playing for the Tic but have to agree in the main with an earlier observation by Big Martin. Of the new signings, only Shunsuke, Majic and Artur are of the desired quality. Present squad is certainly good enough to win SPL but if we really do have ambitions to achieve in Europe, then unfortunately we do not have the class of extended personnel to support Messrs Maloney, Nakamura, Zurawski, Petrov, and Boruc. Mind you, we’ve never had the good fortune to be in a low level group such as TFOD are in, and probably poised to qualify from but that then raises the issue……..wait and see the humbling defeats to follow (follow) and I feel that a similar fate would befall our present crop. The Barca Mole, Pacino, The Giant, Posh Bhoy, PC, The Invisible Boss, Girrafski, Harry Potter, Scouse Kev, T Rex, Room of His Ain, The Pole, et al will not be convening in Waxy's this Friday owing to Ramadan and the observing of local religious custom, not to mention the law and the fact that it's closed. So, the copious calls, SMS', other not alluded to flows of information, aye shegite, and general goss spewed forth round the upstairs table, has fairly limited The Barca Mole's stream of useless, false, and at times, aye most of the time, utterly crap copy. Nonetheless, come 19:00, when Dubai (or rather Dubliner's) again resembles The Bells at opening time scramble on a Sunday morning, when half-eaten breakfasts in Chinwags are left as soon as the first waft of Dettol (at least that's what The MC says it is), drifts across the road and the race is on. Likewise, most of the aforementioned Waxy daytime refugees will regroup in Dub's but because serious outbreaks of sobriety will have broken out, no shegite, or very little, will be spewed forth, so I will have nothing to lie, eh, write about. Well, anyway as I was saying, info is now in short supply, so start sending in your stories, goss, dross, info, etc. made up or otherwise to dubaicsc@hotmail.com and following lax checks by ..... queue drum roll...... trumpets, DA DA DADA DA........
